Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills, and eventually, the ability to carry out even the simplest tasks. Alzheimer’s is the most common cause of dementia, a general term for loss of memory and other cognitive abilities severe enough to interfere with daily life.

Early signs of Alzheimer’s disease may include:

  • Memory loss that disrupts daily life, such as forgetting important events or appointments, or asking the same question repeatedly.
